From lab to product: IR quantumdots detector
Swiss researchers from Empa have set themselves the goal of integrating quantum dots into commercial products as quickly as possible. They are using a special type of quantum dot for this purpose. The result is, for example, a new type of IR detector that is integrated into an optical fibre.

Satellite communication as alternative to fiber optics
A team from the Laserzentrum Hannover has developed a fiber-based laser amplifier specifically for a satellite application for a European Space Agency project. The aim is a satellite network for optical data transmission at 1 TB/s to optical ground stations.

Junior research group develops copper alloys for 3D printing
Dr Silja-Katharina Rittinghaus from the University of Wuppertal has been awarded BMBF research funding to set up a working group dedicated to the development of copper alloys for 3D printing. The results should also be transferable to other materials.
