Dear readers,

You are receiving our issue 03.2025 of the newsletter from LP.PRO –
the specialist medium for the high-tech fields of laser technology and photonics.

Best wishes,
Dr. Matthias Gerlach and the LP.PRO team

40 years of LP.PRO – LASER.PHOTONICS.PROFESSIONAL
Our anniversary issue will be published on April 07, 2025 – on the future trends in photonics:
we will feature interviews, R&D articles, technology articles and more!

AI uses optical aberration for better microscopy

Chromatic aberration is not known to improve microscopic imaging at all. Researchers have now turned this disadvantage into an advantage for use in microscopy. But only the use of AI and its training with images led to this counter-intuitive results in phase microscopy.

Optimized transmission: spatial multiplexing and bandwidth reduction

Wavelength division multiplexing is a common technique in fiber optic-based data transmission. Fraunhofer researchers have now transferred the principle to a spatial dimension – and thus distribute a frequency over several fibers. The researchers have also reduced the bandwidth of a channel to a quarter of the today's usual width.

The intelligent laser laboratory: application tests as if on site

In order to test customer-specific applications more quickly, Luxinar has set up a laser laboratory where customers can virtually experience laser processing tests. The lab offers live streaming and direct communication with the lab staff on site. Cameras also show close-ups and detailed microscope images during each test phase.

Dip in economic growth for Spectaris sectors and recommended measures

The current economic crisis is also having an impact on sales figures in the high-tech industries of optics, photonics, analytical and medical technology, reports the German industry association Spectaris. The association has now published a position paper with recommendations for action to the new government and the Bundestag for a future-oriented economic policy.

Fundamentals of OCT – VDI Guidelines Sheet 2

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) requires complex signal processing to evaluate the images. A new guideline from the VDI is intended to provide basic knowledge on signal processing and data evaluation. The 24 page document is aimed at manufacturers, integrators, software developers and users of OCT systems.
